Izzy Tortuga and Hannah Goodman will star in the teen ensemble production of “Iron Kisses” at Theatre Above the Law. Izzy is a junior and Hanna a senior at Evanston Township High School.
“Part of our mission is to mentor the future of theatre by always including tweens or teens in every production,” said Artistic Direcrtor Tony Lawry. “What that means is either a ‘Young Performer’ is in the main cast of a show or we have an entire separate cast of teens who act as the understudies to the adults and get to go through a professional rehearsal process with them and get their own Saturday matinee performances during the run.”
“Iron Kisses” is a story of a family: The son made up for being gay by being perfect; the daughter treats her daughter the way her mother treated her; the mother struggles to love her two children equally and the father started missing his son while he was still a little boy. In a revealing theatrical twist, two actors portray the siblings as well as their Midwestern mother and father as the complex nature of love, family and marriage in the 21st century is explored.
The teens’ performances will be at 3 p.m. on April 6, 13 and 20 in the theater at 1439 W. Jarvis Ave.
