On June 28 at 9:14 p.m., Evanston Police Tac Detectives were in the 1000 block of Garnett Street when they observed a man they knew had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, said Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department. After they confirmed the warrant was valid they attempted to make an investigative stop of the man.

When Detectives made contact with the man, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody without incident. A search of the man and the satchel he was carrying revealed that he was in possession of a Rock Island Armory M1911 A1 – MS 45 caliber handgun, said the Commander. The handgun was loaded with seven rounds and was equipped with a laser sight, the Commander added.

The man was transported to the police station, and after further investigation was charged with weapons offenses, said the Commander. The man is 22 years old and from Rockford.
