Breaking the Ice, the new mental health ministry at Sherman United Methodist Church, 2214 Ridge Ave., began with a workshop on April 6, followed by another workshop on June 9.
Evaluations from participants at these workshops demonstrated a need for more communication on the topic of mental health/mental illness among black and brown people. Beginning Sept. 7, there will be monthly meetings from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church.
The five committee members from Sherman UMC – Reverend Dr. Barbara Morgan, Darlene Eady, Blanche Smith, Lillian Smith and Delores Malone, with Janet Alexander Davis of First Church of God Christian Life Center, say they are excited to offer these types of workshops. More information is available by contacting Dr. Morgan at 847-475-1973 or visiting shermanmethodist.org.
