The tenth annual Evanston Remembrance Reunion Picnic was held at James Park on Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Several hundred Evanstonians gathered for what many described as a beautiful day to spend with family and friends.
People of all ages, mostly from Evanston’s African American community, came from near and far to reunite and remember loved ones who have died.
The day-long event culminated in a candlelight vigil, where Delphine Perrin-Evans read the names of more than 90 community members who have died since last August.
The mid-summer picnic is organized by the group E-FAM, a group of Evanstonians who are committed to remembering “those who came before us that shaped
our lives and our communities.”
