The Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd., accepts selected recycled items.

These include, under the category of small electronics, cell and cordless phones, digital and video cameras, LCD flat monitors, laptop and notebook computers, MP3 players, inkjet and laser cartridges, graphing calculators, game consoles, GPS systems, radar detectors, routers and modems, and in general, Apple products.

The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Also accepted are fluorescent lights such as four-foot tubes and Compact Fluorescent Lights. CFLs should be placed in self-locking plastic bags.

Batteries are no longer accepted. These include AA, AAA, C, D and 9-volt batteries. Also not accepted are rechargeable batteries, such as NiCad, NiMh, lithium ion and lithium polymer.

Residents should check retail stores or other recycling centers to confirm if they are accepted there. Contact points should be taped before dispensing in garbage or recycling center.
