On Sept. 9, at approximately 11:15 a.m. Evanston police detectives were in the area of the 100 block of Clyde Avenue when they observed a man take a FedEx package from the vestibule of 115 Clyde Avenue. The man took the package, got on a bike, and rode away, said Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department.

Detectives suspected who the man was, and they attempted to stop him in the 300 block of Custer Avenue. The suspect fled from police on foot but was apprehended a short time later. During the foot pursuit, the suspect discarded the package and a backpack, said the Commander.

Detectives recovered the backpack and discovered it contained burglary tools including two screwdrivers and gloves. The package was recovered, and it was verified it did not belong to the suspect. Video footage of the man stealing the package was recovered from 115 Clyde. The suspect, 51 years old and homeless, was arrested, transported to the station, and charged, said the Commander.
