Long-time Evanston resident and  author Bob Perlongo, 85, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2019, at The Grove of Evanston.

Born Robert Patrick Perlongo on Dec. 24, 1933, to Dominic R. Perlongo and Caroline E. (Hoffman) Perlongo, Bob enjoyed reading, movies, jazz and baseball since his boyhood in Lincoln Park, Chicago. He studied at University of Illinois, Champaign,  (a B.S. in Journalism, 1955) and New York University, (M.A. in English Literature, 1960). He served honorably as Private First Class in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 at Fort Devens, Mass.

Bob Perlongo wrote and edited for numerous publications such as Rolling Stone, legendary jazz magazine Metronome and Northwestern University’s literary journal TriQuarterly where he was executive editor from 1981 to 1997. He authored several books including The Everyday Almanac (1979, 1995) and The Write Book (2002).

Beloved father of Ingrid Perlongo, and friend to many, Bob spent his last years enjoying activities at Levy Senior Center and CJE SeniorLife Adult Day Services, both in Evanston: A memorial will be held Oct. 6, 2019.
