On Sept. 19, at approximately 7 p.m., Evanston Police Tactical Detectives were on patrol in the area Greenleaf Street and Chicago Avenue when they observed a blue Mercury vehicle that appeared to have illegal window tint. Detectives stopped the vehicle in the 800 block of Greenleaf, said  Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department.

When detectives stopped the vehicle, the driver immediately got out of the car, said the Commander. Detectives stopped the driver, interviewed him, and recovered approximately .5 grams of cannabis from the driver’s person and a loaded handgun from the car, the Commander said.

The handgun was a .40 caliber Glock 22 loaded with an extended magazine containing 29 rounds, and the driver admitted to possessing the handgun, said the Commander.  The driver did not have an FOID Card or Concealed Carry License, added the Commander.

The driver, a 21-year old man from Evanston, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and other charges.
