On Oct. 21, the District 65 School Board approved changes to the Board’s policies to prohibit discrimination and harassment based on an employee’s gender or gender-related identity.
One amendment requires the District to provide equal employment opportunities to all persons, regardless of their “gender or gender identity whether or not traditionally associated with the person’s designated sex at birth; gender-related identity or expression.”
Another amendment prohibits District employees from engaging in harassment or abusive conduct on the basis of an individual’s “gender or gender identity whether or not traditionally associated with the person’s designated sex at birth; gender-related identity or expression.”
These changes are consistent with Illinois law.
The amendments also require the Superintendent to adopt procedures to effectuate these policies. Interim Superintendent Phil Ehrhardt summarized the process that would be followed to do so.
