Students and community members will host a “Walk Out, Chalk Out” climate rally at Fountain Square at 3 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Fountain Square to launch the next phase of the campaign for the Green New Deal and, according to its organizers, “share how the 10-year mobilization to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs would improve the lives of people in Evanston.”
Speakers from Evanston Township High School – who will have left school to walk to Fountain Square – will highlight the urgent need to shift to a sustainable economy and achieve climate justice. Afterward, attendees will be given chalk to write various pro-climate messages across downtown.
This rally, sponsored by Sunrise E-Town – previously E-Town Climate Action – will be one of more than 250 similar events happening in churches, classrooms, and union halls across the country as part of the Road to a Green New Deal tour.
