According to Stanford University “Americans throw away 25% more trash during the Thanksgiving-to- New Year’s holiday period than any other time of year.” Here are some tips to cut down on food waste this time of the year:

  • Have a set guest list for any gathering. This will help ensure an appropriate amount of food and minimize the amount of leftovers.
  • On big holidays everyone has leftovers that can be made to delicious dishes such as soups and casseroles.
  • Try to avoid paper plates with a plastic film, since those plates cannot be composted and will just sit in a landfill. Compostable plates and actual dishes are fine alternatives.
