Since 2015, John Bates, Curator of Birds at the Field Museum, has been the Cook County Forest Preserve Bird Monitor for Perkins Wood, Evanston’s one and only Cook County Forest Preserve. Mr. Bates tries to do two or more bird surveys there each month.

On Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m., Mr. Bates present on what he has seen in Perkins across the seasons, from the perspective of the birds, and other aspects of the natural history of this North Evanston hotspot.

Perkins Woods, located at the corner of Grant Street and Ewing Avenue, has always been a popular Evanston birding spot, particularly for spring and fall migrations.

The talk, sponsored by Evanston North Shore Bird Club as part of its popular September-April program series, is free and open to the public, held at the Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd. More information is available info@ensbc.org.
