North Shore Choral Society salutes women in musical leadership at its 7 p.m. Feb. 29 concert, “What Happens When She Sets the Beat?”
An exciting collaboration with Artemisia, Chicago’s most versatile women’s trio, along with several accomplished female guest conductors who selected the pieces that comprise the evening’s repertoire, should help to “make this concert an inspiring intersection of talent, personal experience and musical expression,” according to NSCS. The diversity of women in musical leadership over the last 125 years will be reflected as NSCS performs music with classical, gospel, folk and contemporary influences, highlighted in an empowering piece composed by Artemisia’s Diane Lawrence especially for this concert.
A free, pre-concert panel discussion at 6 p.m. with a group of conductors and composers will be followed by the concert at 7 p.m. Both events will be in the Sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, 1427 Chicago Ave.
NSCS is expecting a full house, so people are encouraged to call the ticket line at 773-956-8400 or go to northshorechoral.org to purchase tickets.
