Four local students on the Evanston Shooting Stars team were the first Evanston team to participate in the Illinois Destination Imagination Tournament held Feb. 8 in Wilmette.
The team members were Omkaaraa Kamath, Bailey Jean-Jacques, Makenna Speight, and Ulrika Kamath.
Destination Imagination is an educational non-profit dedicated to teaching students the skills needed to succeed in school, their careers and beyond. It utilizes project-based learning programs that blend STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education with the arts and social entrepreneurship. The memberships of Illinois Destination Imagination present their solutions to Team Challenges at a Regional Tournament in one of four regions. DI’s mission is to “engage participants in project-based challenges that are designed to build confidence and develop extraordinary creativity, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.”
The Shooting Stars devised a skit as part of their DI presentation. They choreographed, designed and created all aspects of the project on their own.
