Officials at the Three Crowns retirement community in northwest Evanston are reporting the first resident death at the facility from the Coronavirus.
Phil Hemmer, Executive Director at Three Crowns, reported the news in a letter that went out today, March 23, to residents, family members and friends of the 200-member facility located at 2323 McDaniel Ave.
“It is with profound sadness that we offer our condolences to the family and friends of a McDaniel House resident who passed away last night, Match 22, 2020,” Mr. Hemmer wrote. “The resident tested positive for Covid-19 and has been in the hospital since Sunday, March 15. The resident was a beloved member of our community for over 12 years.
“Amid this concerning news, Three Crowns Park continues to monitor residents for symptoms, maintain rigorous infection control and screen staff at every shift,” Mr. Hemmel said. “Currently we have no new confirmed cases to report.
“We are grateful for the tireless staff that is on the front lines every day to keep the residents safe,” Mr. Hemmer said.
“Additionally, the Life Enrichment team is utilizing Skype and Facebook to connect quarantined residents to their family and friends with beautiful smiles, laughter, and song.”
“Yesterday, our spirits were lifted when someone repurposed campaign signs and placed them around the campus with new sayings: ‘We are thinking of you,’ ‘Take care’ and ‘We love you.’
”We’ve received emails from generous volunteers, Evanston neighbors and local crafting groups to provide homemade, washable face masks for our staff and residents. Several family members, volunteers, friends and neighbors have dropped off hand sanitizer, notes, and even a beautiful bouquet of flowers to brighten our day.
“Thank you to all for your support and random acts of kindness. We are stronger because of you,” Mr. Hemmer said.
