The COVID-19 virus has raised many levels of fear and coping methods. One friend told me that he was now sleeping on his couch on the first floor rather than in his bed on the second floor so that it would be easier for folks to carry him out from the first floor than have to climb up the stairs and carry him down from the second floor. Wow, talk about thinking of others.
Another friend told me that she was finding it hard to cope with not having visitors. So … she went outside and rang her doorbell, went back in her house and asked, “Who is it?” She then answered herself with, “It’s me. No one has come to visit you, so I thought I would come by.” (I just love it. Talk about a creative way to survive/cope.)
Although the virus may limit person-to-person meetings,
there are other ways to give folks greetings.
If you are feeling all alone,
do not hesitate to pick up your phone
and call a helpline or a friend
to bring your loneliness to an end.
One must find a way to cope
while for a safer world one does hope.
This may be a time for people to start
to read more, write, play games or do art,
try recipes, clean out closets, or learn to sew,
work in one’s yard, watch television or listen to the radio.
Reports of viral deaths make it very clear
that this is a virus that should instill fear.
Some folks say that they pray every day,
which helps them keep their sense of eminent doom at bay.
During this stay-at-home mandate we should put nothing above
the time we have now to show our children our love.
Let us all be thoughtful and do a good deed
like phoning others, sending folks cards or dropping off packages that feed.
Kind deeds, whenever they are done,
show that within that society compassion has won.
