On Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m., Lake Street Church of Evanston will initiate its Virtual Concert series, featuring violinist James Sanders.
Described by the Chicago Tribune as “a free thinker who is expanding the possibilities of the violin,” Mr. Sanders plays in a variety of styles. In the jazz realm, he founded the Latin jazz trio Conjunto, and has played with other groups, including the Blue Violin Quartet and Proyecto Libre Jazz.
Classically trained, he plays with the Chicago Sinfonetta, Black Music Repertory Ensemble, and Fulcrum Point New Music Ensemble. The performance will include collaborations with family members with whom Mr. Sanders is sheltering in place.
After the short performance, Reverend Michael Woolf will talk with him about creativity, art-making and more. This concert is the first event in LSC’s 2020 Passion Project, a series featuring people who approach their lives and their work with passion.
