Summer is on the way and that means the Evanston Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is ready to engage 1000s of readers across Evanston. Participants of all ages can earn prizes, meet reading goals, and dig deeper into the vast world of knowledge  — all for FREE.

Online registration opens June 1 at epl.org/summerreading, or by calling 847-448-8600, or by using the Readsquared APP for both registration and tracking reading. The app is free for both Android and iOS mobile devices.

Summer reading is great for your mind! It expands your horizons, gives you expertise in subjects you love, exposes you to new interests, and makes you smarter about the wide world around you. This summer we want to encourage everyone to “Dig Deeper”. Let’s investigate, read, and discover new ideas and new possibilities. Throughout the summer, EPL will offer virtual camps, online challenges, and DIY projects to keep us digging and discovering new thoughts, stories, facts, and information.

How Summer Reading Works:

  1. Register online, by phone, or via the READsquared APP
  2. Log the days you read.
  3. After 30 days of reading, win a brand new prize book and enter a grand prize drawing*.
  4. Prizes will be available at the end of the summer. We will contact you when prizes are available for pick up.*Must be an Evanston resident to take part in the grand prize drawing

Help spread the word about Summer Reading! Create a chalk drawing on the sidewalk or a poster for your front window that says “Summer Reading is…” Show us what Summer Reading means to you. Share your picture at #EPLDigDeeper and email a photo of your drawing to us at eplyouthservices@gmail.com. We may feature it on social media or in newsletters. Invite your friends and neighbors to join in on the reading fun!

Individuals of all ages and families are encouraged to register starting June 1 and help grow our city of readers. Literacy includes writing, research, technology, creativity, and problem solving. But it all starts and ends with reading. Using reading to dig deeper and grow is one of the best ways to enjoy your summer.
