At the next City Council meeting on Monday, June 8, Mayor Hagerty will present recommendations to the Council for the Citizen Police Review Commission, which was created by a unanimous vote of the City Council on Nov. 11, 2019.
Mayor Hagerty claimed in an email sent to members of City Council at 8:04 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2 that he is looking for fair-minded, objective, and thoughtful constituents who are interested in applying to serve on this Review Commission and that Council members should encourage constituents to apply. Mayor Hagerty’s stated goal is for the Review Commission to reflect the diversity of the Evanston community and complainants. Mayor Hagerty’s email also stated that applications must be submitted by tomorrow evening, June 4. The decision of who to put forward for Council approval is solely that of Mayor Hagerty.
Sixth Ward Alderman Thomas Suffredin sent the notice with his newsletter adding, “At a time when all of us are asking ‘What can I do?, I encourage any constituents who feel they could make a valuable contribution to Evanston by serving on this Commission to apply.”
