Dear RoundTable Readers,
We’ve been around town for more than 20 years now, and we hope that our newspaper has been a good companion to you during that time. Many of you sent letters to the editor, news about your organizations, ideas for stories, and photos of yourselves, family and friends reading the RoundTable, here in Evanston and around the world.
March brought abrupt changes to everyone, as the pandemic shut down much of the City, the State and the country. Still, we were here, bringing you news of the community and COVID-19, intertwined as they are with heartbreak, loss, resilience and resurgence.
The lockdown was an incubation period for us, and we are emerging with a new name and an invitation to join us.
The RoundTable’s operations have been assumed by Evanston RoundTable Media NFP, a not-for-profit organization incorporated in Illinois on April 15. Mary is the president and Larry the secretary of Evanston RoundTable Media NFP. The other Board members are Ellen Galland, Mark Miller, Tracy Quattrocki, Heidi Randhava and Victoria Scott. We are grateful to the more than 30 community members who have agreed to serve on our Advisory Committee:
Derrick Blakley, Ray Boyer, Marianna Brady, Omar Brown, Alan K. Cubbage, Pam Cytrynbaum, Julie Cowan, Dave Davis, Vicente De La Cruz, Peter De Jong, Doug Doetsch, Marcelo Ferrer, Marya Frankel, Anna Galland, Dave Greising, Laura Hohnhold, Patrick Hughes, Mark Jacob, Les Jacobson, Kathy Kastilahn, Sharon McGowan, Therese McGuire, Marianne Moberly, Dick Peach, Nicki Pearson, Lindsay Percival, Ravi Randhava, Robert Reece, Richard Rykhus, Oliver Ruff, Geraldine Sizemore, Peter Slevin, Ingrid Stafford and Karen Young. We invite you to join us as we explore what it means to be a community news organization in this overheated time of competitive social media, self-selected news outlets, a worldwide pandemic and the brutal murder of another black man by police.
We need your support. We want you to read our stories, sign up for our newsletter, contribute your feedback and ideas, and donate to our not-for-profit organization. On June 15 we applied for Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the IRS, and our application is pending.
Our focus will remain Evanston, and our stories will remain free. As a not-for-profit corporation, we believe we will be in a better position to build a solid financial base and recruit additional writers and editors to ensure continuity of the RoundTable.
The pre-Socratic philosopher Heraclitus said no one could step into the same river twice, because both the person and the river were always changing. Our website evanstonroundtable.com is updated several times each day. Maybe you can’t read the same newspaper twice, but you can read the RoundTable every day.

Join, read, support – keep the RoundTable aRound town.
