Evanston Police, in conjunction with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) are investigating the shooting death of DeaShawn Turner at his residence early this morning, July 25. Sergeant Kenneth Carter of the Evanston Police Department told the RoundTable the police, responding just after midnight to a 911 call about shots fired on Hartrey Avenue, received another call about a man shot at his residence, 2209 Emerson St.
Mr. Turner, who was born in 1998, was shot once in the arm and once in the chest, Sgt. Carter said. Sgt. Carter said indications were that “shooting started outside and [Mr. Turner] was in his residence when he was shot.” Mr. Turner was transported to Evanston Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, at about 12:42 a.m.
Asked whether this shooting was connected to the July 23 shooting death of 20-year-old Bri8an Carrion of Glenview near the Howard Street CTA station, Sgt. Carter said, “As of right now, Evanston detectives and forensic specialists as well as officers from NORTAF are still investigating.”
Investigators are following up on a male in his 20’s wearing light colored clothing that fled on foot. At this time, no suspects are in custody.
He added that anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Evanston Police Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) and start the message with EPDTIP.
