Arturo Munoz, a senior at Evanston Township High School died of gunshot wounds on Sept. 21. He reportedly was standing in an alley in the 6400 block of North Hamilton Avenue in Chicago early in the early morning hours. An as-yet unidentified person fired shots that struck him in the back. He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital and was pronounced dead there.
At 10 p.m. on Sept 21, ETHS posted a notice on its website: In memoriam: Arturo Munoz, Class of 2021 Wildkit
“The Evanston Township High School family is deeply saddened by the loss of a member of our student body, Arturo Munoz, who passed away on September 21, 2020.
“Many of our students and staff will have a difficult time dealing with the loss of a fellow Wildkit and may experience an array of emotions, including anxiety, sadness and anger. Families are encouraged to talk about this sad news, support each other, and use our resources as needed.
“The ETHS Student Services Department will provide grief counseling in a virtual format on September 22 and shared a link with ETHS students.
“A list of community resources is available on the ETHS website (http://www.eths.k12.il.us/Page/799), and online resources for families include Addressing Grief by the National Association of School Psychologists.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Arturo’s family and friends, our students, and staff. A private service will be held by the family.”
