Todd Galvin unloads supplies for the Robert Crown Branch Library. With him is Library Director Karen Danzcak Lyons.

Library officials, elected officials, City officials and residents gathered on one of the new soccer fields at the Robert Crown Center to celebrate the re-opening of the branch library on Oct. 3.

After speeches and a dedication, children and adults lined up to cut the ribbon. The branch opened briefly in February. It was closed as a library during the lockdown and used for meetings of the City’s COVID-19 task force.

This branch library has been open again to patrons for several weeks, but this ceremony gave it the official imprimatur. With the Library Board’s decision last month to close the North Branch and the Chicago Avenue/Main Street Branch, this is now the City’s only branch library.
