At approximately 10:15 a.m., this morning, Evanston firefighters responded to the 2500 block of Lawndale Avenue for the report of a structure fire in a multi-family duplex.
First arriving companies encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions in the front of the structure, with the fire extending to both the attic and basement. Due to a quick and aggressive offensive attack, the fire was extinguished and contained to the unit of origin approximately 30 minutes after the initial call. There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries
Additional equipment from neighboring municipalities assisted the City of Evanston station coverage while EFD units battled the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
