Evanston Community Foundation (ECF) today announced the resignation of President and CEO, Monique B. Jones, effective Dec. 11. Since 2015, Ms. Jones’s exemplary leadership has progressed the Foundation’s efforts toward creating a more vibrant, equitable and inclusive Evanston. In her next role, she will assume the leadership of Forefront, a 501(c)(3) organization, and Illinois’ statewide association representing both grant-makers and nonprofits, as well as their advisors and allies.

“It has been an honor to serve the Evanston community for the last five years, and I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve done,” said Ms. Jones. “ECF is woven into the fabric of Evanston and I’m excited for the Foundation’s future as the team leans deeper into the mission of creating a more equitable community. This year, in particular, has underscored the important values of the Foundation. I appreciate the community’s trust and openness for the changes that are needed now, and in the coming years, to assure that Evanston is poised for a strong recovery once we get through the pandemic’s devastating impact.”

The pandemic has made apparent the vital role of the Foundation within Evanston and the work will not stop during the leadership transition.  ECF’s work in equity and inclusion has made the Foundation an essential participant in the important conversations occurring in Evanston, including reparations and educational equity.  ECF executives have been leaders in the Mayor’s task force charting the City’s response to the pandemic, and their deep involvement in critical matters to the community won’t waver during this transition. 

“Monique has been a transformational leader at ECF. She has led the organization through an exciting time of growth and deepening impact,” said Lisa Altenbernd, Board Chair. “The Board remains committed to the vital mission of the Foundation and we expect that our initiatives to serve our community will move forward unimpeded.  The Board and staff wish Monique great success in her future endeavors.”

A search committee has been formed and an interim Executive Director will be appointed for the near term. Meanwhile, the Board will work with an executive recruitment firm to find a permanent President and CEO.
