Playing on the urban legend of Ernest Hemingway’s bet-winning, six-word story – “For sale: baby shoes, never worn” – a magazine editor at the New York Times invited the public to create their own six-word stories. He collected the responses, eventually publishing them in a series of best-selling books. The challenge lives on at the Times, today in a holiday guise.
The RoundTable is following the Times’ lead, calling for readers’ stories from a year stalked by a raging pandemic and fraught with political discord: In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we ask you to distill into six words what you are grateful for. Please send all stories to editor@evanstonroundtable.com.
The most effective (or affecting) stories will be published at
www.evanstonroundtable.com on Thanksgiving.
