The State’s Attorney has charged a 34-year-old man who has an Indiana address with the murder of Evanston attorney Daniel Murray.
Police on Nov. 10 responded to a call at about 7 p.m. regarding a disturbance at 524 Main St. When they arrived, police found two males in the hallway near the rear exit for Northshore Immediate Care. A man later identified as Daniel Murray, 71 years of age, was lying on the hallway floor unresponsive, bleeding from his left ear. The second male was taken into custody regarding the battery investigation, said police in a prepared statement.
The Evanston Fire Department transported Mr. Murray to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. He did not regain consciousness and died on Nov. 27.
The State’s Attorney on Nov. 24 upgraded the original charges of three counts of aggravated battery to allege attempted murder, said police.
The public is reminded that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
