The RoundTable witches were not the only ones gathered at Lighthouse Beach this morning in recognition of the arrival of winter.
The word solstice is derived from the Latin solstitium, which means the stop or standing-still of the sun. From the vantage point of the Earth, the sun for a few moments appears to halt its southward journey and begin to travel north, reaching its midpoint at the equinox and the next solstice in June.
Several cairns already graced the rock-strewn sand at Lighthouse Beach, and one more was added this morning.
