Just after 7 a.m. on Dec. 23, Evanston firefighters responded to the 1200 block of Judson Avenue for the report of a structure fire in a multi-family apartment building.

First arriving companies encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions on the north side of the structure, with fire extending from a garden level apartment to the floor above. Due to a quick and aggressive offensive attack, the fire was extinguished and contained to the unit of origin approximately 10 minutes after the initial call.

All residents had evacuated the building prior to Evanston Fire Department arrival with the assistance of Evanston Police Department. One occupant suffered from minor smoke inhalation, refusing treatment or transport from on scene crews. There were no reported firefighter injuries.

Additional equipment from neighboring municipalities assisted the City of Evanston provide station coverage while Evanston Fire Department units battled the blaze. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
