Evan Girard was out and about today, Jan. 31, chronicling how Evanstonians reacted to the nearly foot of snow that came down over the weekend.

City crews worked to clear the snow from streets …

… leaving snowbanks piled high along lakefront paths …

… and other places, like Nichols School, where Frances Paige and friends found a sledding hill.

There were cars to dig out …

… and sidewalks to shovel: R. J. Jhavieri, 13, helps out.

And for some, like eight-year-old Claire Macauley, it was a taste of winter.
