As part of a unit on writing Opinion pieces, Kingsley fifth-graders wrote reviews on a topic of their choice related to 2020.  Here are some of the reviews, by students who chose to submit their work.

KiwiCo Review

By Mason Dahl

Are you in quarantine and need something to look forward to? Are you someone who likes building or crafting but doesn’t have the right materials? Well, then KiwiCo is perfect for you. It is a company that you choose a kit and every month it will be sent straight to your doorstep! It includes all of the supplies and the instructions to build or make or do whatever you ordered. Here are some other reasons why you should get it.

Every month I get one of these shipped to me and I always enjoy them. I love building and making the things that they give me. But not only do I enjoy making them, I sometimes think to myself, “Is it going to come today?” or “When is it going to come?” I love the fact that they come with a short book that tells you the history of what you’re making or how it works. The book also consists of small other experiments or things you can make. I enjoy going through it and doing the bonus stuff. And every time I get a crate, I love opening up the box and seeing what I get to make!

Another great thing about KiwiCo is it’s challenging and hard to do. Depending on your age you will probably get a different kit. Personally, I like to get the eureka crate, although it is for kids a lot older than me. I like doing the super challenging stuff. They have 8 different crates for ages 2 months old to 100 years. You can get it for building, art, and also other toys for the younger kids. Although if you are into building or art and have done it before, I recommend you consider getting one age level up.

One of the best things about KiwiCo is that it is sooooooo easy to set up. All you need to do is go to their site, select a crate, select how many months you would like to get it sent to you, type in your email and your credit card number, and finally your address, and then you’re all set! Now every month in the mail you will get it shipped straight to your front door, and you don’t even need to pay for shipping. You can even change your kit halfway through the subscription! The only thing is that you can’t change it to a crate that costs more money, but other than that, you’re in the clear.

So if you want something fun to look forward to during the quarantine? Or need a nice thoughtful gift to give someone? Then you have to get a Kiwi crate. They are one of my favorite things to do, especially during 2020!

My Review of Disney Plus

By Medha Joshi

I love Disney Plus. It is very nice, because you can watch things from way back. It has all types of channels like Marvel and National Geographic, and you can watch plays that you can’t go to watch, like “Hamilton.”

One reason why I love Disney Plus is you can watch things that are from the first days of Disney Studios. Some things you can watch are “Steamboat Willie,” the original “Snow White,” and almost all of the Disney classics. Fun fact, did you know that Disney made “Steamboat Willie” during the Great Depression? This is really cool because you can see what people watched during the Depression, like living back in a piece of old entertainment.

Another thing I love about Disney Plus is that it really adds the plus into it in that it’s not just Disney. Disney Plus has movies/shows from Marvel, its own channel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Pixar. National Geographic has all of its documentaries and shows, even ones that you have to wait to see every day on TV like “Life Below Zero.” Not that I watch that. I’m into more of the Pixar and Disney stuff. Moving on, it also has EVERY SINGLE STAR WARS movie/show including the Lego version. Now, Star Wars fans, you don’t have to buy old CDs. You can just get Disney Plus for $6.99 per month! That’s $69.99 per year! Now you might think, oh well that’s a LOT. I don’t want to pay that much to watch “Steamboat Willie” or a Stars Wars movie. So why should I? Well, Disney plus has Pixar movies like “Cars 2” and more. And the Disney one is the best part. It has EVERY SINGLE DISNEY MOVIE EVER. It also has some great shows like “Jessie” and this exclusive Disney Plus one, “Forky Asks A Question.”

But that’s not all. There are some other special things on Disney Plus that you will only find on Disney Plus. You can watch the musical “Hamilton” on Disney Plus. Which is really awesome in my opinion because it is a musical that is no longer playing because of the Coronavirus. So, instead of having to buy the tickets, drive to the place that you are going to watch it, find your seat and wait for it to start, you can pull up Disney Plus, stream it on your TV (or watch it on your phone) get comfy, and watch. You can also pause and rewind which is something you can’t do in person or at the movie theaters.

So? Are you ready to get Disney Plus? Was that enough to prove to you that Disney Plus is for you? I hope you like it. So if you’re ready to get Disney plus, go on your phone to the app store and search up Disney Plus. You should immediately find it. Then buy it, set up your account, and get watching!
