Submitted by the Evanston Police Department
The Evanston Police Department wants to inform the community of seven street robberies that have occurred over the last two days. It is believed that all robberies have been committed by the same offenders. Robberies have occurred during the afternoon hours, between noon and 2 p.m. in the south and central areas of Evanston. Offenders have been targeting victims walking with their cellular phone visible and women carrying purses. Two similar robberies have been reported in the Rogers Park area of Chicago.
The offenders have been described as three to four male youths between 13 and 17 years of age. They have been reported to be driving a blue Honda CRV with Illinois registration. That vehicle has been reported as stolen out of Chicago. Offenders have not displayed or implied a weapon, but have battered several victims during the commission of the robberies.
The purpose of this community alert is not to alarm the public, only to pass on information so the public is aware.
Evanston Detectives are currently investigating all seven incidents. If you have any information regarding these robberies please contact investigators at (847) 866-5040 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) and then start your message with EPDTIP.
