Evanston’s girls scored the upset of the high school water polo season Saturday, dumping defending State champion Stevenson by a 9-2 score in a quad meet at Naperville.

It marked the first defeat for the top-ranked Patriots since the 2018 season.

Evanston goalie Alliey Cunningham was credited with 14 saves. Natalie Long’s four goals paced the ETHS offense, while Claire Kennedy and Ava Santos Volpe netted a pair of goals apiece.

Coach Andy Miner’s Wildkits, now 8-4 overall, split their other two matches, bowing 9-8 in overtime to Naperville Central and defeating Fenwick 9-5. Erin Long and Samantha Rhodes each scored three goals in the OT loss.

Against Fenwick, eight different players scored goals for ETHS.
