Tickets on sale online now
Tickets are on sale online now for the Evanston Garden Walk, to take place rain or shine from noon to 5 p.m. on June 27. Garden-walkers will have the opportunity to see some of the most creative and beautiful gardens Evanston has to offer – seven noteworthy private gardens and a gem of a public garden.
Online tickets are available at https://evanstonenvironment.org/gardenwalk. Starting June 1, community members can purchase tickets at the Ecology Center and other businesses listed on the link.
Admission is $20 for Evanston Environmental Association members and $25 for nonmembers. Groups of six or more are $20 per participant prior to the day of the walk. Tickets are $30 per person when purchased on the day of the walk.
Descriptions of the gardens and maps are provided. The Evanston Garden Walk will observe Centers for Disease Control and prevention guidelines for the safety of visitors and homeowners that include mask wearing and social distancing.
All proceeds from the Evanston Garden Walk benefit the programs of the Evanston Environmental Association, which includes scholarships for children to attend the Ecology Center’s summer camps and the apiary, home to 40,000 honeybees.
Preview of a Few Gardens
- A garden surrounding a residence with LEED Platinum status; the garden was planned to help manage extreme rainfalls and help pollinators thrive in community with their native hosts.
- A small, shady lot transformed into a lush, tranquil space by owners who were willing to forgo the typical lawn and focus on texture and a limited plant palette enlivened by punches of color.
- A manicured garden around a traditional French-style château. Voted winner of the Chicago Tribune’s Glorious Gardens contest in 2008, the garden is notable for its formal elegance.
