The District 65 School Board is inviting residents of the District to apply to fill a current vacancy on the District 65 School Board. Rebeca Mendoza submitted her resignation from the Board last week.
In order to be eligible to serve on the School Board, a person must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, a registered voter, and a resident of the State of Illinois and Evanston/Skokie School District 65 for at least one year.
Information on how to apply is available on the District 65 website at www.district65.net/boardvacancy and at the Joseph E. Hill Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave. Application documents must be submitted by 4 p.m. Friday, May 21. The applicant selected will be announced at the June 14 Board meeting.
The term of the appointed board member will run until the April 4, 2023 election.

What skills/experiences do you have that will enable you to serve effectively as a school board member?
How can you help amplify a marginalized perspective on issues that are considered by the board?
What issues do you think are most important for District 65 to address in the coming years?
Describe how you view the role of the board as it relates to the relationship with the superintendent? With the community?
If you could change one thing in District 65 immediately upon joining the board, what would you want to see changed?
How will your appointment support the Superintendent’s vision and leadership of the district?
If you are selected, your appointed term will end in April 2023. Do you intend to run for the school board in 2023?

So how is it that a sitting Board member resigns just after the election, allowing the existing Board to appoint someone of their choosing rather than risking an election. Sounds nefarious. How very Illinois…
