The Kitchen Table Stories Project is leading an effort to engage the community in a celebration of ASAPI Heritage Month in Evanston. An informational website has been created to offer educational, social service, and social action resources, as well as a calendar of local and virtual activities and events throughout May. Posters can be found in storefronts of local businesses all over Evanston supporting the initiative, and the Main-Dempster Mile, Central Street Evanston, and Downtown Evanston business district organizations are featuring local Asian-owned businesses with interviews and stories through their local news outlets and on social media. www.kitchentablestoriesproject.com
The Kitchen Table Stories Project, the Asian American Caucus, and the City of Evanston will host an ASAPI festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 22 in Fountain Square featuring speakers from the Asian American Caucus and City Council, cultural performances, and a community-wide art project that will engage children, families, and individuals of all ages in creative place-making while supporting physical distanced socialization and community building.
