On May 18, 2021, at 6:30 a.m. Evanston Police responded to an attempted criminal sexual assault in the area of Clark Street. and Orrington Avenue, said the Evanston Police Department in a statement issued by Commander Ryan Glew.  Upon arrival officers located the victim, a 27 year old Northwestern University student, and several witnesses. 

“The initial investigation indicated that a male grabbed the victim from behind, threw her to the ground, and attempted to remove her pants. Witnesses intervened and thwarted the offender’s attack. The offender then fled on foot. The victim suffered minor physical injuries in the attack,” said EPD.

Detectives arrived and continued to investigate. Video surveillance in the area captured the offender who was described as a male Black wearing a unique coat. The coat was red, white, and black with letters on the front that spelled “Gucci”. A photo of the offender was disseminated to area law enforcement agencies, said EPD.

At approximately 12:25 p.m. Glencoe Public Safety responded to a well-being check of a male subject in the area of Dundee and Forestway. Glencoe Public Safety observed the subject and determined he matched the description of the offender from the earlier incident, including the unique coat, said EPD.  

Glencoe Public Safety informed Evanston Police Detectives they had located a subject matching the offender’s description. Evanston Detectives responded and took the man into custody, transported him to the Evanston Police Department, and continued their investigation. The man, 20, is a resident of Chicago. He was charged with one felony count of Attempt Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and one felony count of  Aggravated Battery in the Public Way, said the EPD.
