Dylan Elwood blasted a 3-run home run to lead Evanston’s baseball team to a 5-2 victory over visiting Whitney Young Thursday in the first round of Illinois High School Association regional tournament action.
Evanston, seeded No. 3 in the sectional complex, will host Loyola Academy next Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the regional title game. The Ramblers eliminated Leyden 13-2 in the first round.
ETHS was clinging to a 2-1 advantage in the 6th inning. But Joe Liss whacked his second double of the game, Evan Burns drew a walk, and Elwood followed with his game-clinching home run.
Winning pitcher Danny Sheikh yielded just 2 hits but did walk 4 while striking out 6 in 5 and two-thirds innings on the mound. Hank Liss recorded the save.
