Greenwise Organic Lawn Care fully supports the proposed ban on gas-powered blowers. Greenwise supports any initiative that pushes our industry towards emission-free technology and encourages contractors and residents in the Evanston community in this direction. We believe the momentum around electric equipment is good for the Evanston community, good for our employees, and well-aligned with our mission in environmental stewardship.
Since Greenwise was founded in Evanston in 2007, our goal has been to Lighten Our Footprint in creating and maintaining safe lawns and gardens. For some time, our business has been steadily moving towards low-emissions and emissions-free landscaping equipment.
Since 2008, Greenwise has used only 100% propane-powered mowers, which run much cleaner than conventional, gas-powered mowers. Over the last five years, we have been adding emissions-free mowers to our fleet and plan to continue doing so as the technology improves. In our view, the mowing technology is not as advanced as that of hand tools. For hand tools, we are nearing a point where the power of electric equipment rivals gas-powered alternatives.
Today, all of Greenwise’s maintenance crews have access to electric blowers. We use electric mowers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers and edgers. Once heavy-duty electric vehicles are available and viable for landscape companies, we plan to invest in electric technology for our fleet as well.
Thank you,
— Austin Hall, President and Owner of Greenwise Organic Lawn Care
