On Sunday, June 27, Indivisible Evanston will host a Deadline for Democracy Rally, calling on Senators Durbin and Duckworth and their congressional colleagues to act urgently to defend democracy and pass the For the People Act by August.
“We’re running out of time to pass the For the People Act. Senator Schumer has said repeatedly that ‘failure is not an option’ and we’re taking him at his word,” said Ezra Levin, co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible Evanston. “This is the Deadline for Democracy, and everyday Americans from every corner of the country and across movements will be taking action to defend our democracy.”
According to Common Cause, the For the People Act is a “package of democracy reforms including independent redistricting commissions, citizen-funded elections, closing the revolving door between government and corporate interests, and protecting voters against discrimination.”
The rally will start at 2 p.m on June 27 at Fountain Square, on Davis Street between Orrington and Sherman.
