Interim Police Chief Aretha Barnes on June 29 promoted two Evanston Police Officers to the rank of sergeant. In Council Chambers of the Civic Center, City Clerk Stephanie Mendoza administered the oath of office to Tosha Wilson and Richard Tyson.
Mayor Daniel Biss thanked the officers for their service to the community. Noting the crowd of about 100 of the officers’ friends, family, and colleagues, he said it was the largest he had seen in the Civic Center in his few weeks as mayor, and the number of people in attendance underscored the significance of the event.
Sergeants Tyson and Wilson each thanked their colleagues and the community. Sgt. Wilson said despite the national anti-police sentiment, she felt the community of Evanston supports the police.
