“We brought a milkweed pod home with us from Michigan after a visit last fall. My husband scattered the seeds along the rocks south of the beach at South Blvd. Monarch butterflies are a common sight there now!”

I’m on the far north side of Chicago. After a few years, one of my many common milkweed plants flowered for the first time. Monarchs, who had already found my butterfly weed plants in earlier years, fed on these flowers. Sunday I found two monarch caterpillars in my garden. They’ve been eating both species of my milkweed leaves energetically. I hope they will progress to adulthood!
