Join the City of Evanston and Evanston Township High School on Saturday, Aug. 14 for a “Black Lives Matter Way” Honorary Street Sign Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony is scheduled for 12 noon at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Church Street. There will be brief remarks by 2nd Ward Alderman Peter Braithwaite, District 202 School Board members and the Evanston Township High School Superintendent and Athletics Director.
Last summer, the ETHS Boys Basketball program was motivated to make an impactful and supportive statement of the injustices faced by the Black community by painting “Black Lives Matter” along Dodge Avenue in bold yellow text in front of their high school.
While the murals, news coverage and yard signs will eventually fade, honoring the section of Dodge Avenue in front of ETHS as “Black Lives Matter Way” will remind Evanston residents to strive for continuous improvement in order to one day achieve a just and equitable society.
