As seasonal lifeguard and beach staff return to school each year, the City of Evanston adjusts beach operations at the end of the season to ensure that all locations have adequate staff to maintain public safety, manage admissions, and support daily operations.
On weekdays, beginning Monday, August 16, swimming will only be available at Clark Street and Lee Street beaches for the remainder of the season. The public will have access to the sand area of all other beaches during weekdays, but swimming will not be permitted.
All beaches will remain open for swimming during weekends through Monday, September 6 for normal hours, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Daily beach passes will remain available for purchase through the end of the season.
So in spite of continuing hot weather and the exorbitant taxes we pay to live in Evanston, we aren’t “allowed” to … go into water? This is abject nonsense and just another in an ever-growing list of reasons why families like mine are rushing to leave this city. When you incentivize people to be upset with city policy, guess what happens? People leave and they take their tax dollars with them…
fyi the census reports there are 3000 plus more people living in evanston that in the previous 10 years.
