Evanston/Skokie School District 65 will host a public hearing 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, on an e-learning proposal for students that could be enacted on days school is closed due to extreme cold, major snowstorms or other emergencies.
The hearing will be held in the boardroom of the Joseph E. Hill Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave. The meeting agenda and the live-streaming link will be posted on the district website 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
The purpose of this hearing is to seek input from school personnel, parents and caregivers and other community members concerning the provision of the school code allowing for e-learning days when school is unexpectedly closed in the event of snow or other weather-related events and in lieu of using an emergency make-up day as amended by Public Act 101-0012.
Section 5/10-20.56 of the school code contains the minimum requirements to ensure staff and student participation in an e-learning day, while not physically present, in order for the day to be counted as a day of student attendance.
