At approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning, Evanston firefighters responded to the 2300 block of Foster Street for the report of a residential structure fire.
First-arriving companies responded within minutes, encountering heavy smoke and fire conditions in the basement. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes and contained to the unit of origin. The American Red Cross provided emergency services for seven displaced residents. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.
Additional equipment from neighboring municipalities assisted the City of Evanston with station coverage while EFD units battled the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
