Evanston’s girls field hockey team had to wait an extra day to continue after rain and lightning postponed their sectional tournament semifinal game against North Shore Country Day in the first quarter Wednesday night.

But the Wildkits made it worth the wait when they came back on Thursday, blanking the Raiders 3-0 and punching a ticket to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

Goals by Makayla Clark, Madilynn Clark and Annie Hogan powered the Kits into the championship game on Friday against top-seeded Lake Forest. With the win, ETHS matched the school single season record for victories with eight and improved to 8-6 on the season. North Shore had defeated the Kits, seeded 8th, in overtime during the regular season.
