The Congregation of Sherman United Methodist Church is pleased to announce the Diva 2 Diva concert featuring Greta L. Oglesby, award winning actor and songstress, and Tramaine Parker, performing artist and soloist.

The concert will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7 at the church located at 2214 Ridge Avenue. Tickets for the concert are $25.00 in advance.

Greta Oglesby is an esteemed veteran of the Twin Cities and Chicagoland theater communities. Her performances have been described as “ravishing,” “indelible,” “powerful,” “magnificent,” “heartbreaking” and “brilliant.” Her theater credits include Ten Thousand Things: Thunder Knocking on the Door, Once on This Island, King Lear and The Furies. At the Penumbra Theater she performed in The Wiz, The Piano Lesson, Amen Corner, Black Nativity. Guthrie Theater: Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, The Crucible, Caroline or Change, Burial at Thebes. At Children’s Theater she appeared in Beggar’s Strike, Five Fingers of Funk, Last Stop on Market Street, and The Wiz. Shhe is married to Rev. Dennis M. Oglesby Jr, Pastor of Sherman UMC.

Tramaine S. Parker began singing at the age of four.  She has sung with the Chicago Children’s Choir, traveling nationwide and internationally, singing all genres of music.  Performing at such venues as Ravinia, Harris Music and Dance Theater, Carnegie Hall and Riverside Church in New York are highlights of her Children’s Choir experience.  While attending Lincoln Park High School, Tramaine excelled in her talent, earning honorable superior ratings for solo performances at city and state competitions.  Attending Fisk University, she sang with the famous Fisk University Choir and Fisk Jubilee Singers.  Tramaine continues to perform as a soloist and with several choral ensembles including the John Work Chorale and Vocality. She is currently a member of Black Monument Ensemble and Lakeside Singers in addition to singing in her Sherman United Methodist Church choir.

Sherman UMC is the only historic African American United Methodist Congregation in the Evanston and North Shore communities. The church was established in October 1922 in the home of Lula B. Sherman, an African American Woman for whom the church is named. For additional information concerning the Diva 2 Diva concert, please email shermanunitedmc@gmail.com.
