Why is local journalism so important? Local journalism connects communities, encouraging readers to listen to and empathize with one another. Feature stories and community calendars introduce neighbors and create a strong sense of place. Our news outlets inform residents, who are more likely to engage in civic activities and vote in municipal elections.
What happens when local journalism disappears? Communities become disconnected and less friendly, with residents relying on unverified information from social media to make decisions.
For over 20 years, the Evanston RoundTable has met the needs of our diverse community through its award-winning journalism. More recently, our newly designed website, mobile app and email newsletters continue to provide important news about Evanston’s city government, schools, art, culture and local businesses at no charge, reflecting our belief that a strong democracy is based on a free press.
We have ambitious goals for the future – but we can’t do it alone. Support the Evanston RoundTable, and join the many Evanstonians who wish to continue the tradition of robust local journalism.
We’re excited to share that we have an opportunity to make your donation go even further this year through NewsMatch, a nationwide movement to sustain journalism through matching gifts on the local and national level.
Here’s how it works.
Starting now—through December 31— your donation to the RoundTable will be matched through NewsMatch and commitments from local partners. With your help, we will match every dollar donated through the end of December.
Invest in Evanston. Invest in local nonprofit journalism.
With gratitude,
The RoundTable team
