Due to a rise in catalytic converter thefts across the country, police departments are working with residents to help take preventive measures to deter this crime. Catalytic converters are stolen because of the value of the precious metals they contain. Having a marked catalytic converter may help to deter theft. On Saturday, November 20 the Evanston Police Department will hold an event to mark catalytic converters.
EPD Officers will use spray paint to mark the catalytic converter under your vehicle, making it less desirable for potential theft. Paint will only be visible from underneath the vehicle and will not affect operation. This event is free and open to Evanston residents only. Pre-registration for the event is required and attendees must present ID for proof of residency upon checking in. Face coverings required.
